AV Dawson is investing EUR 5.9m (£5m) in a new dry bulk rail terminal at the Port of Middlesbrough in north-east England.
The project covers a new unloading pit, rail line, conveyor system, dedicated storage warehouse and concrete loading pad. Seymour Construction, based in Hartlepool, and Atherton Material Handling are working with AV Dawson on delivery.
The terminal will increase unloading capacity by 40% to 500 tonnes per hour. It will include five rail lines, with additional sidings feeding wagons into the unloading pit and conveyor system.
The facility will handle dry bulk commodities including fertilisers, aggregates, salt, industrial minerals and energy products. Customers will have access to indoor and outdoor storage at the site.
The Port of Middlesbrough is located on the River Tees and has direct rail access to the East Coast Main Line. The site also connects to quayside operations for rail-to-port transhipment and has road links via the A19 and A1.
AV Dawson owns and operates the Port of Middlesbrough, a 120-acre logistics hub. The company describes the site as the largest independent rail freight facility in north-east England.
