ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has opened its modernized combined transport terminal in Přerov-Horní Moštěnice in the Czech Republic after 16 months of construction.
The terminal area was expanded by approximately 17,100 m² to address capacity limits at the site, including restricted handling areas and limited access to some tracks. The modernization included expanded handling and storage areas, improved track access, and new transshipment technology.
The terminal now has capacity of approximately 3,000 TEU. ÖBB Rail Cargo Group said the upgrade will allow higher shipment handling quality, increased train frequency, and more operational flexibility for freight customers.
The Přerov terminal serves as a distribution point in Central Moravia, with connections to rail and road networks. ÖBB Rail Cargo Group plans to develop rail connections from Přerov to the ports of Koper and Rijeka, strengthen intermodal routes in Central Europe, and integrate the terminal into Eurasian rail connections via Budapest.
The expanded area also enables the handling of semi-trailers. This adds to the terminal’s role in combined transport, where road loading units are transferred to rail for longer-distance movements.
The Přerov-Horní Moštěnice site traces its origins to the former ČSKD-INTRANS terminal from the 1970s. During the Czechoslovakian Railways (ČSD) period, it was one of the main hubs for Czechoslovak combined transport.
