DB Cargo Scandinavia is taking a leading role in Denmark’s Preparedness Initiative, coordinated by Dansk Industri (DI), to enhance the country’s supply chain resilience and crisis readiness. With its strong rail network across Denmark and Sweden, the company ensures that factories keep producing and ports maintain full capacity, even under challenging conditions.
From single wagons to entire block trains, DB Cargo Scandinavia provides complete logistics solutions. Its multi-system electric locomotives and HVO-certified diesel units enable sustainable and reliable transport of large volumes of goods across borders.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the vital role of the transport sector in maintaining essential supplies. “Transport and logistics are an integral part of Denmark’s crisis preparedness,” said Oliver Gesche, CFO of DB Cargo Scandinavia and board member of DI Transport. Gesche has been actively involved in developing the initiative, focusing on highlighting the positive contribution of the transport sector to national readiness—whether in infrastructure disruptions, supply chain challenges, or climate-related events.
The DI initiative aims to foster dialogue between policymakers and industry, strengthening cooperation and making the most of available resources and expertise to improve resilience.
Beyond emergency preparedness, DB Cargo Scandinavia also focuses on sustainability and long-term innovation. Together with public authorities and industry partners, it is driving rail decarbonisation and the development of green transport corridors. One example is the Greenport Scandinavia project in Hirtshals, which will provide sustainable infrastructure for the safe and low-emission transport of CO₂e.
DB Cargo’s engagement in Scandinavia demonstrates how strong cross-border rail networks contribute to Europe’s supply security—by keeping freight moving efficiently, sustainably, and reliably.
