Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday that border crossings between Poland and Belarus will reopen at midnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

The opening of the borders comes less than two weeks after the Polish government closed them due to the Russian-Belarusian military exercise "Zapad," meaning "West" in geographical terms.

"The conclusion of these exercises reduces - although I can't say eliminates - various threats, and taking into account the economic interests of Polish carriers and railways, we concluded that this measure has served its purpose," PM Donald Tusk told the government, as cited by Polish TVP World.

The border closure affected the four train border crossings at Grodno–Kuznica Białostocka, Berestovitsa–Zubki Białostockie, Svisloch–Siemianówka and Brest–Terespol, as well as the two car border crossings at Brest–Terespol and Kozlovichi–Kukuryki.

"If tensions increase, we will not hesitate and we will make appropriate decisions," Polish PM added.

The closure of the railway has reportedly had an impact on an annual €25 billion in goods between the EU and China, as reported by Euronews server.
