The cooperation will cover the design of new railway lines, logistics terminals, sidings and technical facilities connected with the Port Polska programme.
Under a letter of intent, Polish rail freight operator PKP Cargo will provide operational expertise during the infrastructure planning process led by Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK).
The two companies will analyse the development of intermodal transport, freight traffic management and potential locations for terminals and sidings. They will also assess the infrastructure needed to support cargo operations linked to the planned airport.
“Modern infrastructure is designed in partnership with those who will use it,” said Filip Czernicki, CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny. He said involving freight operators early should help ensure that the resulting infrastructure serves both passenger and cargo traffic.
Port Polska includes the construction of a new airport and a wider programme of railway investment. CPK said the planned network should increase capacity, improve access to logistics terminals and create additional opportunities for intermodal freight.
Zbigniew Prus, President of PKP Cargo, said freight requirements, particularly those related to intermodal services, should be incorporated before construction begins rather than added later.
The letter of intent begins a joint planning process. It does not yet specify individual freight projects, terminal locations or an implementation timetable.
